My son was struggling with reading in school. Their teaching methods didn’t fit our son’s learning style. While he was in second grade we had Sara tutor him with his reading. In working with him she discovered he was also having some tracking issues. Something the school system isn’t trained to detect. Because of Sara’s keen interest in her student, ”E” was able to get the vision therapy he needed to become a successful reader.

Student Update: This former student has now graduated from High School and is pursuing a career in safety. What a privilege to be part of his journey to success!
My daughter has always struggled with reading. Her teachers and I both think she has dyslexia, but the school district is not allowed to diagnose dyslexia and insurance doesn’t cover the diagnosis of it. The school also doesn’t have specific supports geared toward dyslexic students. Her teacher had given her all the support she could, but she wasn’t making much progress, so I’ve had to search for solutions on my own.
Toward the end of summer and at the beginning of my daughter’s 3rd grade year I decided to have Sara work with her. Sara was very kind and patient with my daughter even though she often did not want to read and would get tired easily, Sara would find ways of engaging with her and keeping her interest.
My daughter made a lot of progress in a short amount of time and I noticed she wasn’t struggling or complaining as much when I listened to her read. Instead, she had developed a better attitude toward reading (probably because it was getting less difficult). Sara evaluated her in multiple areas at her first session and again on her final one, showing in detail where she had made the most gains and improvements (she improved in every area and some were now a perfect score). She was also able to keep her workbook and continues to work on her skills from home.

Our experience working with Sara at Letterbox Reading Therapy was immensely beneficial for my 13 year old daughter. My daughter struggles with dyslexia and was stuck with some coping strategies that were hindering her from moving forward with more complicated text. Sara's professional, compassionate, and fun approach to reading therapy was exactly what my daughter needed to boost her confidence while learning new techniques. We quickly saw a jump in her ability to tackle complicated words instead of immediately guessing and her overall skill level has continued to improve.
Sara also has a keen sense for detecting underlying issues such as vision problems. Our vision therapist was impressed that Sara was able to catch a subtle yet problematic tracking and focusing problem that had a negatively affected my daughter's reading success.
Overall, I would enthusiastically recommend Letterbox Reading Therapy. Sara excels at what she does and is a true pleasure to work with.
