Sara was trained by Carmen and Geoffrey McGuinness (the creators of Phono-Graphix) in 2006 and continued with her Master Therapist training in Florida the following year, which has prepared her to work with dyslexic and learning disabled clients. She has also worked with all ages from child to adult.
Are you a teacher, a care provider, or someone who would like to use Phono-Graphix in a private practice or classroom setting? Sara is a licensed trainer of the Phono-Graphix method and you can become a certified reading therapist through her one week course. Course materials must be purchased through the parent company.
Sara understands that when a child struggles to read, comprehension suffers. It isn’t long before a child begins to connect reading with a feeling of failure. When typical remediation protocols don’t produce gains, the child begins to believe they aren’t capable. Sara believes it is the confusing teaching methods that are the problem.
Sara loves living in the Pacific Northwest with her children and husband of 25 years. Fall and winter are her favorite seasons.Baking sourdough bread, volunteering in the community, and sewing are some favorite activities. However, nothing brings her more joy than being in the company of her three sons and husband.
Lessons will be held at Sara’s home just minutes from the artsy town of Duvall. The quiet location is also home to two cats, one of which is quite friendly. Lessons will be conducted on the upper level so the ability to climb stairs is a must. Synthetic fragrances and candles are not used in the home. (In-home services available for wheelchair-bound clients.)
Parents are encouraged to stay on site. The methods taught will need reinforcement and Sara will provide the brief instructions for the parent to support the student at home.
There is space for the parent to read, connect to WiFi, or even entertain a sibling during the session.
